Replying to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Textiles, Ajay Tamta mentioned that Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Power have joined hands under the efficient energy initiative ‘Sustainable and Accelerated Adoption of efficient Textile technologies to Help Small Industries’ (SAATHI) to enhance the use of energy efficient textile technologies.

The initiative is precisely aiming at the accelerating adoption of energy efficient power looms and thereby saving considerable costs.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a Public Sector entity under the administrative control of Ministry of Power, will replace old inefficient electric motors with energy efficient IE3 motors which will result in energy and cost saving up to 10-15% in the first phase.

With negligible upfront costs, this energy efficient equipment will reduce energy as well as cost consumptions.

Power loom clusters at Ichalkaranji, Bhiwandi, Erode, Surat, Bhilwara and Panipat have been identified for the study under the energy saving initiative ‘SAATHI’.

Besides SAATHI initiative, Ministry of Textiles also claims India to be a one stop source for brands and retailers from ASEAN member countries.

The ministry asserts that the attraction is because of competitive advantages available in India including availability of raw material, trained man-power and presence of the entire textile value chain.
