Indian Manufacturers Must Step up For Manufacturing of Grid Inverters

Highlights :

  • Grid tie inverters are very crucial for the success of rooftop solar power plants.
  • Charging time can not be reduced to less than 30 minutes so we need more chargers for the number of vehicles on the road. At the same time, we need to have that much energy available which can probably be achieved with solar and storage.

Founded in 1993 in Panchkula, Haryana, Pyramid Electronics delves into EV battery chargers, grid-tied solar inverters, energy storage. Sandeep Goyal, CEO & Founder, Pyramid Electronics, speaks to Saur Energy International about the firm, the inverter and EV charger market.

Tell us about your EV chargers, their price range and charging specifications. How do they compare on these features against those in the market?

Pyramid Electronics has developed AC Type-2 ranging from 3.3 KW to 22 KW Single Phase and Three Phase and DC CCS-2 ranging from 15 KW to 240 KW 200 V to 1000V DC.

Our chargers are completely designed and manufactured in-house including power module, master controller and CCS Controller, both hardware and software). We assume our chargers will be placed competitively against international brands. We don’t compare our chargers with our competitors who are just either buying from China or just assembling here as they bring in components from China including power module and controllers. We can customize chargers as per customers’ requirements.

What is your take on the integration between solar energy and EV industry?

Looking in to energy availability in India, integration between solar energy and EV Industry will play an important role.

How do you see the solar rooftop power generating system evolving over the next few years? How crucial are grid tie solar inverters to this?

Solar rooftop market will grow in future. Grid tie inverters are very crucial for the success of rooftop solar power plants. Presently, the Indian market is flooded by Chinese players. Indian manufacturers should  step up for the manufacturing of grid inverters.

We have designed and manufacturing grid inverters up to 15 KW capacity and are BIS certified. The designing for higher capacities is in progress and we hope to launch inverters upto 100 KW in near future. We are planning to launch inverters up to 50 KW in natural cooling (no fans).

How dependent is the Indian inverter market for imports on global market? Will we ever achieve 100 per cent independence?

To achieve 100% independence, customers need to support Indian manufacturers rather than just go in for a price war with the cheap Chinese brands.

The Government has mandated charging stations every 3 km. Do you see that as plausible? What are the opportunities and roadblocks here ?

Charging stations at every 3 KM will be required to achieve the target for Electric Vehicles. Charging time can not be reduced to less than 30 minutes so we need more chargers for the number of vehicles on the road. At the same time, we need to have that much energy available which can probably be achieved with solar and storage.

What are your 2025 goals?

We are looking to place ourselves in the front row for manufacture and supply of solar inverters and EV chargers in Indian market.
