Brooge Energy, Siemens Energy Partner For Solar & Green Hydrogen in UAE

Cayman Islands-based infrastructure provider Brooge Energy Ltd has announced a partnership through the company’s subsidiary Brooge Renewable Energy with Siemens Energy to build a solar PV farm to supply the Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia project of Brooge Renewable Energy in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The announcement was made at the World Government Summit 2023 in Dubai.

Brooge Renewable Energy and Siemens Energy will build up to 650 MW solar PV plant to supply planned Phase 1 of the green ammonia project with renewable energy. Siemens Energy will serve as the technical partner to Brooge and exclusive provider of solutions including engineering, design procurement, and construction of up to a 650 MW solar PV plant including grid connection and operation and maintenance services.

Brooge said that the UAE has a critical role to play in the global energy transition. By launching this project, Brooge will not only demonstrate its commitment to sustainable energy but also contribute to the UAE’s and the global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

The green ammonia project is one of the first privately owned company green ammonia projects in the UAE which aims to produce renewable, carbon-free fuel using solar power.

Brooge said that the project also aims to contribute to the global effort to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate. This project is a significant milestone in the UAE’s energy transition journey and demonstrates the country’s commitment to sustainable energy.

UAE’s energy minister Suhail Al Mazrouei said that UAE may include hydrogen in the upcoming new energy strategy of the country that will help the Gulf state to become a top hydrogen exporter.

UAE’s flagship RE company Masdar is also looking to export hydrogen from and to build facilities in other markets as well. Masdar is planning to be produce 1 million tonnes of hydrogen annually by 2030.
