State owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has invited bids under two part bid system from manufacturers / suppliers of Mono crystalline Silicon PV Modules for purpose of pre-bid tie up for participating in 500 MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) Solar Park tender at Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh. The last date for bids is April 27, 2021.

With a minimum manufacturing capacity of 400 MW stipulated, the tender conditions also stipulate a minimum 50 MW of modules with minimum 300Wp supplied in any one of the previous 3 years. No limitations have been placed on sourcing of cells for the said modules.

The Mono PEC modules will need to come with 72 cells and 12×6 configuration or 144 cells (half cut) with 24×6 configuration. The expected  efficiency of the modules should be 19% under standard testing conditions, and the modules should perform satisfactorily in humidity up to 85% with ambient temperatures between -10°C and +65°C.

Bids can also be split between multiple bidders, with a minimum bid size of 150 MW and a preference for Make in India.

BHEL is another erstwhile thermal and hydro power focused PSU that has been roped into push the solar movement in India. It is quite likely that the firm will be expected to get into solar manufacturing at some stage. Last month, it invited consultants to help it prepare a plan to get into end to end solar manufacturing, from raw material quartz (polysilicone) to wafers and then finished products like cells and modules.
